Abstract: The report presents the results of the Rare Birds Panel for breeding species in Poland in 2022. The status of breeding populations of 32 rare taxa (30 species and 2 subspecies) was summarized, including their abundance, distribution and trends. A record high abundance was observed for: Whooper Swan Cygnus cygnus (321 pairs), Egyptian Goose Alopochen aegyptiaca (38 p.), Red-crested Pochard Netta rufina (66 p.), Mandarin Duck Aix galericulata (150 p.), Eurasian Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus (45 p.), Pied Avocet (17 p.), Black-crowned Night Heron Nycticorax nycticorax (1422 p.), Great Egret Ardea alba (993 p.) and Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus (79 p.). An increase in numbers was also recorded for the Great Grey Owl Strix nebulosa (10 p.).The declining trend was detected for: Common Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula (209 p.), Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa (240 p.), Great Snipe Gallinago media (541 males), Western Osprey Pandion haliaaetus (40 p.) and European Roller Coracias garrulus (10 p.). Populations of Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca (92 p.), Common Shelduck Tadorna tadorna (116 p.), Eurasian Curlew Numenius arquata (187 p.), Greater Spotted Eagle Clanga clanga (19 p.; including 8 pure/non-mixed pairs), Golden Eagle Aquila chrysaetos (32 p.) and Aquatic Warbler Acrocephalus paludicola (4486 males) remained stable. Fluctuations or unknown trends in abundance were observed for Mediterranean Gull Ichthyaetus melanocephalus (94 p.), Sandwich Tern Thalasseus sandvicensis (355 p.), White-winged Black Tern Chlidonias leucopterus (874 p.), Citrine Wagtail Motacilla citreola (53 p. outside the Biebrza valley), and taxa which abundance did not exceed 10 p., i.e., Black-winged Stilt Himantopus himantopus (4 p.), Short-toed Snake Eagle Circaetus gallicus (1 p.), Homeyer’s Great Grey Shrike Lanius excubitor homeyeri (2 p.), Carrion Crow Corvus corone (6 p., all pairs mixed), Wallcreeper Tichodroma muraria (at least 4 p.) and Grey-headed Yellow Wagtail M. flava thunbergi (2 p.). There were no breeding records of Rose-ringed Parakeet Psittacula krameri, Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus, Redwing Turdus iliacus and Greenish Warbler Phylloscopus trochiloides.
