Abstract: This study presents the results of winter birds surveys conducted in green areas in town of Zielona Góra (western Poland, area 278.3 km2). The observations were carried out in five areas, i.e. two urban parks, a park converted from suburban forests, a palace park and a recreational area in the valley of a small watercourse in the winter season 2021/2022. Four survey visits were conducted in each area: in the second half of December, the first and second half of January, and the first half of February. A total of 3534 individuals of 45 bird species were recorded on the study plots. The following records were noted on individual research plots: Zatonie Park – 821 individuals from 35 species, Gęśnik Valley – 1436 individuals from 30, Poets’ Park – 469 individuals from 28, Millennium Park – 333 individuals from 23 and Piast Park – 475 individuals from 21. The following mean and maximum densities of all birds were recorded: Zatonie Park (68.4 indiv./km and 80.0 indiv./km, respectively), Gęśnik Valley (143.6 indiv./km and 186.8 indiv./km), Poets’ Park (45.1 indiv./km and 62.7 indiv./km ), Millennium Park (49.0 indiv./km and 59.4 indiv./km) and Piast Park (91.4 indiv./km, 122.3 indiv./km). In total, 11 species were dominant in all areas: the Blue Tit Cyanistes caeruleus, Great Tit Parus major, Eurasian Magpie Pica pica, Eurasian Nuthatch Sitta europaea, Feral Pigeon Columba livia f. urbana, Goldcrest Regulus regulus, Siskin Spinus spinus, Collared Dove Streptopelia decaocto, Great Spotted Woodpecker Dendrocopos major, Marsh Tit Poecile palustris and Tree Sparrow Passer montanus. Of the 45 recorded species, only 13 were found in all areas.
